This web site has been designed to make available to stakeholders of the Division of the State Architect (DSA) concepts that the Excellence Committee of the DSA Advisory Board (DSAAB) believe to be important considerations in design, construction, occupancy and maintenance of schools in California. It seeks to raise the bar on quality, incorporating values of sustainability and student success into the criteria on which the planning process for public schools is based.

DSA School Plan Review and Construction Oversight
Excellence in Public Educational Facilities is not a mandatory program of the DSA and does not affect or change the School Project Submittal, Plan Review or Construction Oversight programs at the DSA Regional Offices. This web site is an outreach only to DSA clients and interested parties. While the DSAAB feels very strongly that adoption of Excellence concepts will result in better schools, school plans and construction will not be reviewed any differently with the establishment of this web site.
